davidathome® is located on Tranholmen between Stocksund and Lidingö.
The idea is taken from Cuba, where people also open up their homes - a so-called paladar.

Unique restaurant in Stockholm

davidathome is a different kind of restaurant in Stockholm. The restaurant is literally in the kitchen at our home. You as a guest sit in the kitchen and watch the food being prepared and served by us. You can't get more in the middle of the food than this. We serve what is suitable for the season and what we feel like cooking. Before every Friday, we have prepared a four-course dinner for the 45 or so guests who come to our home. 

The challenge for us is the logistics of getting everything to the island, regardless of the weather. Mostly we take everything by boat to the island, and then we use carts and sledges depending on the weather. Everyone who lives on an island probably recognizes the drudgery of getting the grocery bags home. It takes many hours to create a Friday night meal for the guests. We must always have a backup plan for what we have planned, anything can happen. But regardless of how things have gone before, we make sure that you who come and decorate the kitchen tables will have an evening to remember. You might go home with new friends for life, or a new idea that turns into a business. The most important thing for us is that the food is well prepared, and of course that we ourselves like what we cook. Our goal is for you to relax and enjoy, it's a Friday night with us!

What is it like to run a restaurant in your home?

We are often asked what it is like to run a restaurant in our own kitchen. And we usually answer that it's like running a restaurant anywhere. Except that we live in the restaurant.

Of course, a home is different from a restaurant kitchen, for example, we prepare all the food in our outdoor kitchen in order to make the quantities required for 45 people. Our house is located on an island in Stockholm, Tranholmen, which is between Ropsten and Lidingö, which makes transportation a bit more complicated than to most other restaurants in Stockholm. 

Tranholmen is also a car-free island and there is only a bridge to the island during the winter, otherwise it is the boat that applies to get here. There are no cars on the island, but our contractor Göran has a four-wheeler that we can use to bring home food and wine transports...must be added, when Göran has time. So there may be a slight difference when it comes to running a restaurant in the middle of Stockholm compared to running it from your home on Tranholmen. 

We have heard from Swedish and foreign guests that our restaurant at home is very unique, and that there is no other restaurant in Stockholm like ours. We strive every night to give our guests a unique and different experience.

As I said, there is no fixed menu as we feel for each week and compose what we want to serve according to season and mood. What is nailed down is that you are served at least four dishes, along with wines that we have combined with the food or a non-alcoholic alternative. We have a large selection of wines, so of course you can choose a different wine than the one we have selected for the evening. 

We also have a truffle night in the restaurant every fall and an asparagus night in the spring. These evenings are some of the highlights of the year for me, because I get a visit from my mentor Norbert Lang and it's just as much fun every time. 

Kitchen too small?

We have the great pleasure of being appreciated by many, the seats are very limited and get booked up very quickly. This is great fun, but it also makes it difficult to get a seat around the kitchen table in our restaurant in Stockholm. Tranholmen is only a stone's throw from Stureplan, 8 minutes by subway to Ropsten. From Ropsten to Tranholmen it takes 8-12 minutes by tour boat, once there it is then a 4 minute walk and then you are at our home. From Stureplan to our door in 30 minutes!
