Restaurant Sweden
Are you looking for a restaurant in Sweden that can offer a different experience compared to a regular restaurant? Then you have come to the right place. davidathome is a special restaurant experience. Why? Because you eat at home in our kitchen. It is only a restaurant in Sweden for a few hours each week, the rest of the time the house is our home.
We who run davidathome, who cook the food and serve you for an evening are David Enmark and my wife Katarina. We serve food that is in season and that we want to cook for every Friday night.
Why a restaurant at home?
It all started when I learned about Cuba and their restaurants back home, called "paladars". I thought it sounded like a great idea, and something I wanted to try in Sweden. I have a passion for food and long experience as a chef, and I'm also quite stubborn, which was good when we started the restaurant. Since we live on a car-free island, Tranholmen outside Stockholm, it sometimes takes some creative solutions to make sure we can serve 45 people for dinner on a Friday night. To get to the island between mid-April and November, you have to take the ferry or taxi boat. In winter, there is a bridge in place between the mainland and Tranholmen, so you can walk across to our island and home.
A different kind of restaurant in Sweden
Our two children were living at home when the restaurant opened and family has always been the most important thing for me, even though the house is full of restaurant guests. In the history of the restaurant, there have been moments where the two worlds collide. Like when the son wants to take a shower in the evening and the guests have to queue for the bathroom, because there is only one bathroom in the house.
Another unforgettable evening was the one where the power went out half an hour before dinner was to be served. Did that ruin the evening? No, we started the gas stove outside, cooked the food, lit the candles on the tables and got through the evening. Also, one of Sweden's most famous singers, who was a guest during the evening, brought his guitar and played live instead of the vinyl player.
The menu for the evening
The menu for the evening is decided by us and you will be served a four-course menu and more. We set the menu based on ingredients that are in season and what we feel like cooking. That means you don't even have to think about what you're craving, all you have to do is make sure you have a seat at the kitchen table in our kitchen. After that, you can sit back and enjoy an evening that we hope you will remember with warmth and joy. We do our utmost to make every evening unique and memorable.
